Okinawan Karate School (OKS) is a professionally run, independant family Dojo at the heart of East London in Forest Gate and is based at its own, full-time, permenant, fully kitted Karate Dojo.
Okinawan Karate School specialises in teaching karate to children between the ages of 4 -16yrs only, and although adults are not accepted at entry level, children who start with OKS can remain with the team into their adult karate training lives.
OKS prides itself in the higher level of teaching and standard of management of its team. Having started only 4 years ago OKS has a growing number of karateka and a successful Squad with an amazing track record of karate standard, competition participation and medal titles. OKS is open to all and everyone who share a similar philosophy and dream to itself. Okinawan Karate School have a strict policy of not "selling" grade belts and instead ensuring that all of our students actually learn and deserve the belts around their waist. Indeed, every individual is different and it may take longer for some than others and while ensuring that 2-3 gradings are taken each year, every karateka can be sure to come out the other side with actual knowledge and foundation of what they have been doing.
OKS does not simply fill a couple of hours in a week of a childs life but instead emphasises the importance of working together with parents to ensure that whomever has walked through our doors will display the same signature of our great Chief Instructors unique teaching and karate standard and everyone will know that they had once been Sensei Qwareeqs student.
1st trial session is free and sessions are divided into levels and abilities and can be a minimum of twice or three times per week (and upto five times for squad members). There are no registration or membership fees. Once we know the ability of each person they will then be advised of the most suitable session timetable. All participants must be willing to put in the effort and teamwork into their karate training. OKS practices Traditional Shotokan Karate focusing on the 3 K'S (Kihon (Basic), Kata (Forms) and Kumite (Sparring) and most techniques are taught both in English and Japanese. For younger children OKS focus' on a fun and unique programme which includes Okinawan Karate basics, bunkai, gymnastics and yoga.
Okinawan Karate School play a very active part in regular competitions at all levels, ensuring that there is something to experience for everyone. OKS are also founders and supporters of the charity group #Give4KaratePalestine - to help raise donations which make it posspible for Palestinian children to practice karate and take part in International Competitions
